Genetic variations of an oxidase in mammals.

چکیده
The genetic basis of the variation in activity of the mammalian enzyme which catalyzes the oxidation of N1-methylnicotinamide to N1-methyl-4-pyridone-3-carboxamide has been investigated. The data indicate that in mice the magnitude of the enzyme activity depends on a pair of autosomal alleles, one of which determines a high level, the other a low level, of enzyme activity. Differences in enzyme activity between males and females and the effect of administration of estradiol and of testosterone to intact animals indicate that the level of enzyme activity is subject to hormonal influence as well. Thus, whereas the distinction between classes with low and high enzyme activity is under genetic control, levels of enzyme activity within these classes appear to be regulated by the endocrine system.

In this study 12 specimens were collected from Bandar Jask, Qeshm Island and Bandare Lengeh in Hormozgan Province. DNA extraction was performed using Phenol-Chloroform method. A partial DNA sequence of Cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene (COI) was used to evaluate genetic diversity. The sequence of Cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene was done using specific primers designed based on sequences regis...

Although standard treatments are nearly life-saving in hepatitis C patients, all patients equalldon’t respond to such medications. To achieve an efficient therapeutic response in all patients, medications should individually alter based on genetic factor variations. Hence, having more detailed knowledge of the affective factors on the disease promotion could help us to organize an appropr...
متن کاملAssociation of Pathogenic Missense and Nonsense Mutations in Mitochondrial COII Gene with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP)
Nuclear genetic mutations have been extensively investigated in solid tumors. However, the role of the mitochondrial genome remains uncertain. Since the metabolism of solid tumors is associated with aerobic glycolysis and high lactate production, tumors may have mitochondrial dysfunctions. Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is a rare form of colorectal cancer and an autosomal dominant inheri...
متن کاملGenetic Identification of Orientobilharzia turkestanicum from Sheep Isolates in Iran
BACKGROUND Adult worms of Orientobilharzia turkestanicum live in the portal veins, or intestinal veins of cattle, sheep, goat and many other mammals causing orientobilharziasis. Orientobilharziasis causes significant economic losses to livestock industry of Iran. However, there is limited information about genotypes of O. turkestanicum in Iran. METHODS In this study, 30 isolates of O. turkest...
